Cactus to Clouds

If I estimated correctly, I am about 2,000 feet from the summit of San Jacinto peak right now. I set out this morning around 5:30 AM to climb the highest peak of the San Jacinto mountains. At 10,834 feet, it is less than impressive but it will work in a pinch.

Last night about 7:30 PM I got bored. More than bored. I had this craving for an adventure. Ultimately, I would have done anything to be standing on the top of a mountain at the time. So, while it was pretty much impossible for me to transport myself to a mountain top, I left immediately for the closest mountain that I have yet to climb: San Jacinto peak. Conveniently enough, this happens to be just outside of Palm Springs so it was less than difficult to find last minute accommodations. My good friend Gregg graciously offered to put me up for the night.

That feeling of restlessness doesn’t overtake me often. Maybe only a few times every year. But I have learned that if I don’t vent it, don’t give in just a little, the next thing I know I’m on a one-way flight to Fiji.

There are a bunch of pressing deadlines this week, and I just needed a break from it all before my head exploded. Natascha, if you are reading this, I promise to have the website done by Thursday. I mean, look on the bright side of things. At least I’m only climbing a (nearby) mountain and not on a trip to Tonga.

More pictures to come, as always. Since this blog article was written last night and scheduled for the morning, if nobody hears from me by evening it is probably reasonable to assume that I picked a fight with a mountain lion.

  • lol. That mountain lion would be just the adventure, huh? lol. Anyhoo, I understand the restless thing. I also agree it is bad to repress these urges. When you repress these, they eventually come bursting out all at once. That is when you wake up in Tijuana surrounded by empty Rum and Tequila bottle, a party wrecked hotel room, a pounding headache, and only brief flashes of the last three days in you memory. Something about a bull fight and a woman named Carmen…. hahahaha.

Just let it out a LITTLE at a time…. lol.
