Mount Everest
WANTED: Someone to send me on an expedition to Mt Everest.
I’d like the chance to climb Mt Everest, preferably before I turn 25. Unfortunately, that’s coming up very soon. Jeeze I feel like such an old man.
The problem is that in order to fund an expedition up Mt Everest I’m going to need around $75,000. They won’t take a check so cash is preferred. The way I see it, I just need to find somebody who has a bunch of money and would like to possibly get rid of me. There’s a good chance that I’ll come back, but hell, for a simple 75k you can roll the dice!
The last few years Mt Everest only keeps about 3% of the people who attempt to climb it. Except in 1996 when 15% of the climbers didn’t make it and in 1982 when 61% of them died. Those just seem like freak years though.
To top things off, I don’t think there’s much point in doing it if there’s supplemental oxygen involved. The trick is acclimating my body to breathe air with as little as 14% oxygen. It’s not impossible. As far as I’m concerned, there’s no point in doing something if you’re gunna do it half assed.
Of course, the other option is to forget about the guides, the Sherpa and just figure out how to hike up the mountain all by myself. Fortunately, that’s a lot less expensive.
