Road Trip Back to Los Angeles

So last week Wednesday I decided that it would be a good time to head back to Los Angeles. I loaded up my Jeep, said goodbye to the family and Duke and hit the road. My goal was to travel all 2,100 miles in two days. Even for me, it was pretty ambitious.

The first day I made it all the way to Vail Colorado. In case you haven’t ever driven through it, Nebraska is a fucking big state. Moving on… I pulled over in Vail and found myself a dark street in a residential neighborhood where nobody would notice me. I crashed for a few hours and woke up around 5:30 in the morning just as the sun was coming out. Good thing too cause people where looking at me funny when I was sleeping just a few feet from their front yard. Time to move on…

Somewhere in Utah my check engine light decided to come back on. A few days ago when I was in Milwaukee I left my soft top down on my Jeep for a night and we happened to get about an inch of rain. Well, I don’t actually know what the real measurement was but that’s how much water was in my cup holders. Sure enough, my check engine light came on but nothing seemed wrong. I took it to AutoZone and they were nice enough to tell me that my throttle position sensor was going to hell. I asked them to clear the errors and didn’t have a problem again until I got to Utah. Well I found an Advance Auto store and found out that the pesky TPS was throwing errors again. I had them clear the error codes and I was doing just fine until I got into Las Vegas. The check engine light came on again but this time I didn’t really care. It was very, very late and I just wanted to get home.

Today I went to AutoZone in Los Angeles and they very kindly told me that I was crazy when I asked them to tell me why my check engine light is on. Apparently they just don’t have time to help people with things like that here in busy California. Oh well, I bought the TPS anyway. Now I’m just waiting for my engine to cool down so I can attempt to install it. On a side note, this is the first auto part I’ve bought that actually came with instructions that told me to use Crisco to lubricate the seals. Not kidding.

Anyway, I made it back to Los Angeles safe and sound. Now I’m just trying to see how long I can stay in town. That always seems to be the biggest challenge.
