My Arm

It finally happened. The horrible news that the amazing piercings on my arm are already growing out. Bummer.

I spoke with several piercing dudes in London and they all confirmed it for me. It looks like I’ll be taking them out sooner than later to make sure that they don’t leave nasty scars. Although, it would be pretty cool to actually watch them grow out to the top of my skin.

The good news is that all hope for spikes in my arm is not lost! I found out some interesting information today. Surface piercings, which is what I have, are done by going only deep enough to get halfway through the skin and then making a 90 degree turn and going sideways along the skin until they turn up again and come back out. Because of this, they are likely to grow out. The other way to make this work is to have what’s called a dermal anchor put in. This little guy looks like an upside down T with the single post sticking up through the skin and the flat part resting under the skin completely and actually in the fatty tissue. This won’t grow out.

I will be taking these out before I leave London but next week I’m getting dermal anchors put in!

Pictures to follow.
