Laundry Day

I hate laundry day. It’s always a painful 3 hours sitting in front of the washer and dryer. Don’t forget that it generally costs 8 euros to do a single load. That’s the same as 3 kebaps or an entire day worth of food.

I mustered up the courage and headed downstairs. Tossing all of my laundry into the washer I read the French instructions as well as I possibly could. The one part I did understand was the temperature setting. I had a new shirt in there that I was looking to shrink so I turned it up nearly as high as it would go: 95 degrees. Keep in mind that this is degrees celsius so I’m essentially boiling my clothes.

Over an hour later and they were finally done. I started seeing more blue colored items coming out than went in but at least they looked nice. I was ready for a change of wardrobe anyway and this was better than the sicky yellow I dyed my clothes in Australia.

The real problem came when I pulled out a T-shirt and from it fell small paper scraps. I first thought that I must have washed a receipt with my clothes but soon noticed that it was actually the iron-on that I had decorated my shirt with. Yep, each and every shirt lost anything that was attached to it whether I did it or it was done at the factory.

Oh well. Nothing I can do about it now.

Lesson of the day: It’s almost never a good idea to boil your laundry, especially when it’s all of your laundry at once.
