Belgium in One Day

Well not really all of Belgium but at least 4 cities. It all started with a day trip from Brussels to Brugge. From what I heard, Brugge was good enough to make sure that I didn’t pass it up but not quite enough to do there to make it a real stop on my adventure. I woke up super early and caught the 9:20 am train to Brugge. It takes about an hour to get there.

I walked around the city for a bit and then grabbed some pasta and a beer at 11:00 for an early lunch. Taking my meal back to the market square I watched group after group dump heaps of money on a horse drawn tour of the city. The drivers wore a neat little straw hat though. As I got up to throw away my garbage I saw Scott walking across the market square. I originally met Scott in Berlin and then ran into him again in Munich. We walked around Brugge for a little while and then popped into a grocery store to get some chocolate and beer.

From Brugge we hopped a train to Antwerp for lunch. Antwerp has streets just as crazy as Brussels and Brugge but the city was actually pretty. Scott and I also saw the first intersection in Belgium either of us ran into that formed 90 degrees: a proper intersection. Every other street corner is a bizarre angle. We walked around Antwerp for a bit and then Scott went back to the train station for his trip to Amsterdam. I, however, went to Ghent.

Ghent was pretty much the same thing as Brugge. I walked around for a while and then headed back to Brussels for a meeting and a nap.

If someone wanted to they could easily do all of Belgium in a single day. It all looks pretty much the same and there are pissy French in every city.
