Waiting on the Runway
I really like Lufthansa so I’ll just blame this on JFK airport. Its currently 4:00 EST and we were supposed to be taking off at 3:30 EST. Apparently there were some rain showers and that threw a wrench in the works regarding getting airplanes in the air. The Captain just announced that we are currently in line to take off at position 52. Super! This could be a while. He’s estimating between a 60 and 90 minutes.
I’ve never actually pushed away from the gate and then sat on the runway before. In my experience, delays were always at the gate. They just announced that the United States has a law where once the airplane has shut its doors but before it’s taken off, all passengers must remain seated. No exceptions. The flight attendants have made it clear that we cannot even get up to use the toilet. Really now, who has the time to think up such specific legislation and then to spend the millions of dollars to make them into law? Clearly I’m paying too much in taxes.
Well now they’re yelling at me to shut off my BlackBerry. I could be bringing aircraft crashing to the ground with this bugger. If only I had known it was that easy.
