I’m Sorry Sir, Your Airline No Longer Exists

Not 15 minutes ago I received a call from STA Travel. It went something like this:

Phone Rings (freaks roommate out)
Jeff: “Hello”
Operator: “Is Mr. Jeffery Walden available?”
Jeff: “This is…”
Operator: “Hello Mr Walden. This is Rob calling from STA Travel. I’m calling to inform you that your flight from Honolulu to Las Vegas booked through STA Travel has been canceled. The airline you booked with no longer exists.”
Jeff: “Huh?”
Operator: “Yes Mr Walden. The airline you booked your flight from Honolulu Hawaii to Las Vegas Nevada has declared bankruptcy and has canceled your flight.”
Jeff: “Um, you’re kidding, right?”
Operator: “No sir, I apologize for the inconvenience. We recommend you contact your credit card company immediately to issue a charge back and rebook your flight. You may want to be quick as flights are filing up extremely fast.”
Jeff: “Okay, I think. Thanks.”
Operator: “Good luck sir.”

Stupid cheap airline going out of business. You can read all about it here. I managed to rebook a flight on United Airlines (my 2nd favorite airline) for a few hundred more than I paid for ATA. Oh well, I guess ya win some and you lose some. I could go into telling you why I’m so fond of United but that would require a post all on its own.
